A japán kormány kérésére törölték az októberre tervezett Japán Nagydíjat a versenynaptárból a koronavírus-járvány miatt – közölte a Motorsport.com. A suzukai verseny tavaly is elmaradt.
A Formula–1 menedzsmentje azt közölte az oldalán, hogy dolgoznak az őszi versenynaptáron, a következő hetekben fogják közölni a részleteket. Azt hozzátették, már tavaly és idén is bizonyították, hogy meg tudják oldani az adódó problémákat. Arra külön kitértek, hogy rengeteg ország szeretne F1-es versenyt rendezni.
A Motorsport.com szerint Katar lehet az egyik beugró helyszín, míg egy második versenyt Bahreinben rendezhetnek meg. Ha ezek a helyszínek csatlakoznak a sorozathoz, akkor az utolsó négy futamot a Közel-Keleten rendezik, mivel Szaúd-Arábiában és Abu-Dzabiban is lesz egy-egy futam.
Japánban a koronavírus-járvány ötödik hulláma zajlik, emiatt az olimpia után a paralimpiát is nézők nélkül rendezik meg. Szerdán 19 953 új fertőzéses esetet jelentettek az országban, az elhunytak száma 47-tel emelkedett.
