Max Verstappen nyerte a Japán Nagydíjat, miután végig higgadtan őrizte elsőségét, noha a McLaren versenyzői a futam egésze alatt a nyomában loholtak. A címvédő idei első sikerével egy pontosra csökkentette lemaradását a bajnoki tabellán.
Remek időmérős teljesítményének köszönhetően Max Verstappen várta a legkedvezőbb pozícióból a szezon harmadik nagydíjának rajtját, míg a favoritnak tartott McLaren-pilóták „csak” a második és a harmadik helyről vágtak neki a viadalnak Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri sorrendben.
A negyedik pozíció Charles Lecerc-é volt, majd Mercedes két versenyzője jött: George Russell és Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
A középmezőny versenyzői közül az időmérő egyik hőse, Isack Hadjar foglalta el a legjobb rajtpozíciót, a hetediket. A legjobb tízből Lewis Hamilton, Alexander Albon és a Haas idei legjobb időmérős eredményét szállító Oliver Bearman startolt még.
A szuzukai közönség kedvence, Cunoda Juki a tizennegyedik pozícióból várta pályafutása első Red Bull-os versenyének startját. Előle az a Liam Lawson indult, akit a bikások két futam után menesztettek, és akinek a helyét épp a japán kapta meg.
Az előrejelzéseknek megfelelően az időjárás változott az időmérő után: a levegő lehűlt és este az eső is megérkezett. Bár a rajt pillanatában nem esett, a pályán még voltak vizes foltok, de a helyzet nem volt annyira vészes, mezőny száraz gumikon vágott neki a versenynek.
A rajt a nehezebb körülmények ellenére szerencsére tiszta volt, ami pedig a pozíciókat illeti, azokat az élen mindenki tartotta.
Noha az időmérő után még ő maga is „tartott” kissé a McLaren versenytempójától, Verstappen az első körökben ki tudott építeni egy lélegzetvételnyi előnyt Norrisszal és Piastrival szemben, kinek tempóját a Ferrari és a Mercedes is tartotta – az indulás után még nem szakadt szét a mezőny.
Az első tízben előzést először a hetedik pozícióért folyó csatában láthattunk: a kemény gumikon induló Hamilton utasította maga mögé Hadjart.
A taktikai csatát Russell és a Mercedes nyitotta, ők álltak ki először kereket cserélni az élmezőnyből. Norris eközben begyújtotta a rakétákat és fokozatosan csökkentette Verstappen előnyét, Piastri pedig a közvetlen élmezőnyben is megnyitotta a kiállások sorát.
Verstappen és Norris ugyanabban a körben, a huszonkettedikben kerített sort saját kerékcseréjére, ami a McLarennek sikerült jobban, Norris pedig ellenfele mellé került a kijáratnál, pozíciócserére viszont nem került sor, miután a listavezető lesodródott a füves részre.
A rádión természetesen azonnal beindult a „csata” kettejük között: Norris azzal vádolta ellenfelét, hogy leszorította őt a pályáról, míg Verstappen azzal, hogy túl korán oldotta fel a sebességlimitálót, így kerülhetett egyáltalán mellé a kijáratnál.
A versenyigazgatóság gyorsan vetett is egy pillantást az incidensre, amiért nem osztott ki büntetést egyik félnek sem.
A győzelemért folyó küzdelem tehát – mindenki legnagyobb örömére – a pályán dőlt el, Norrisnak előznie kellett, hogy átvegye az elsőséget. Ennek érdekében újra rákapcsolt és a kiállások után is csökkentette – a boxutcai incidens után újra másodperc feletti – lemaradását.
Norrist a csapattárs, Piastri követte árnyékként, az első hármas tehát minimális különbségekkel vágott neki a futam hajrájának.
Roppant feszültek voltak tehát a verseny utolsó körei, a különbségek folyamatosan a DRS-zóna határán billegtek, előzési manővert viszont nem láthattunk, Verstappen higgadtan őrizte az elsőséget a McLaren versenyzői által rá helyezett nyomás alatt.
Ez a higgadtság pedig futamgyőzelmet ért a címvédőnek, aki idei első sikerével egy pontosra csökkentette lemaradását a másodikként célba érkező Norisszal szemben. A huszonnegyedik születésnapját ma ünneplő Piastri egy harmadik helyezéssel zárt.
Leclerc negyedik, Russell ötödik, Antonelli pedig, aki megfutotta a verseny leggyorsabb körét, hatodik lett. Hamilton hetedikként ért célba, Hadjar pedig a nyolcadik pozícióval megszerezte pályafutása első F1-es pontjait. Rajta kívül egységeket még Albon és Bearman gyűjtött Szuzukában.
A bajnokság a jövő hét végén, szünet nélkül folytatódik Bahreinben, a téli tesztek helyszínén, egy olyan pályán, ahol a mezőnynek már van tapasztalata a 2025-ös autókkal.

A világbajnoki címvédő, Max Verstappen nyerte a 38. Formula–1-es Japán Nagydíjat, győzelmével pedig ismét jócskán elhúzott az őt követő pilótáktól az egyéni világbajnoki ranglistán. Mögötte 12 másodperces hátránnyal csapattársa, Sergio Pérez ért célba, a dobogó alsó fokára pedig a legutóbbi futamon brillírozó spanyol, Carlos Sainz fért fel.
A pénteki első szabadedzésen már ismét Verstappen futotta a leggyorsabb kört, mögötte az ugyancsak Red Bull-os mexikói, Pérez, illetve a két héttel ezelőtti futamon, Ausztráliában győztes Carlos Sainz végzett. A nap második gyakorlásán viszont már teljesen más kép alakult ki a hétvégét illetően: a rövid etapot a McLaren 23 éves pilótája, Oscar Piastri nyerte, a képzeletbeli pódiumra pedig a hétszeres világbajnok Lewis Hamilton, illetve a ferraris Charles Leclerc fért fel. A nagydíj előtti utolsó hangoláson ismét az osztrák istálló két pilótája, illetve a Mercedes brit versenyzője, George Russell végzett.
Ennek ellenére mégsem született nagy meglepetés – a közép-európai idő szerinti – kora reggeli időmérőn: Verstappen ott folytatta, ahol Melbourbe-ben két héttel ezelőtt abbahagyta, és végül megszerezte a rajtelsőséget. Mellőle a 34 éves Pérez, a második sorból pedig a McLaren fiatal tehetsége, Lando Norris, illetve a spanyol pilóta, Carlos Sainz startolhatott.
Különleges futam volt ez mindenki, főleg a monacói pilóta számára, ugyanis ezen a pályán éppen tíz éve történt keresztapja, Jules Bianchi horrrorisztikus balesete. A zuhogó esőben egy másik pilóta autóját mentő traktor alá zuhant, majd 285 nap kóma után elhunyt, mindössze 25 évesen a Marussia versenyzője.
A vasárnapi futam rajtja rögtön piros zászlós fázissal kezdődött: a 11. rajtkockából induló Daniel Ricciardo és a 14. pozícióból startoló williamses, Alexander Albon összeütközött, igy igen hamar kiesett mindkét pilóta. Ezzel egyúttal biztossá vált, hogy az ausztrál idei negyedik futamán sem szerezhet pontot, ami igen rossz hírt jelenthett számára a jövőjére való tekintettel.
Körülbelül 30 perc várakozás után újra felállították a versenyben maradtak pilótákat, és elrajtolt a mezőny. Ez a futamkezdet sem hozott különösebb izgalmakat, már ami a pozíciókért folyó csatákat illeti, csupán Leclerc. A pontszerző helyeken: Verstappen, Pérez, Norris, Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Piastri, Leclerc, Hamilton és Cunoda Juki autózott.
A 14. körben a Sauber kínai pilótája, Csou Kuan-jü váltóhiba miatt kényszerült feladni a futamot, ezzel 17-re csökkent a versenyben lévő pilóták száma. Ekkör a holland előnye már öt másodperc volt csapattársa előtt, akit – a kerékcserék miatt felbolydult mezőnyben – a két Ferrari követett.
Egy kerékcserés Ferrari-taktika, ami a dobogót jelenthette Leclercnek
A verseny felénél jártunk, mikor Leclerc utolsóként kitért friss abroncsokért, amely – a dobogóért folyó csata a két Ferrari, Alonso és Norris között látszott eldőlni – a végső helyezést tekintve nagy fegyverténynek ígérkezett. Ezzel ugyanis csaknem biztosnak tűnt, hogy a mezőnyben egyedüliként a monacói – a piros zászlós kerékcserét nem számítva – egy kiállással tudja teljesíteni a futamot. A taktikai elképzelés mellett a bokszutcai látogatás is ült, ezzel be tudott vágni az érkező Russell elé a hatodik helyre visszatérnve. Az első helyen ekkor már több, mint tíz másodperc volt Verstappen előnye a Pérez, Sainz, Alonso hármas előtt.
Néhány körrel később Leclercnek sikerült 4,5 másodpercre leszakadnia Norristól, annak ellenére, hogy ugyanabban a körben mentek ki kerékcserére. A brit pilóta is érezte, nemcsak a pódium úszhat el, de még a másik ferraris is elé kerülhet, ugyanis Sainz is igen csak rátapadt. Norris rákapcsolt egy fokozatot, és ismét szorosan zárkózott a monacóira. Nagy csata bontakozott ki az utolsó körökre a harmadik helyért.
Ám ekkor a másik Williams-versenyző, Logan Sargeant hibázott, a kavicságyban kötött ki, így gyakorlatilag véget ért számára is a verseny. Végül ez nem idézett elő biztonsági autós fázist, és rövid sárga zászlós periódus után folytatódhatott a csata a ferrarisok és Norris között.
Bár már úgy tűnt, Leclercé lehet a dobogó harmadik foka, csapattársa másként vélekedett: a 46. körben kihasználva tempóelőnyét simán elment a monacói mellett és már ő autózott a Red Bull-duó mögött.
Végül Verstappen több mint 12 másodpercet vert csapattársára, Pérezre, mögötte pedig Sainz végzett, aki pozícióját nemhogy megtartotta csapattásával szemben, az előnyét még jelentősen növelni tudta a célba érésig. A két Ferrari így ismét nagyon fontos pontokkal gazdagodott, és négy futamot követően magabiztosan tartja a konstruktőri versenyben a második helyet.
Verstappen tizenkét pontra növelte előnyét az egyéni összetett élén, míg a második helyre – Leclerc-t megelőzve – visszakapaszkodott Pérez.
A világbajnokság két hét múlva a Kínai Nagydíjjal folytatódik.

A japán kormány kérésére törölték az októberre tervezett Japán Nagydíjat a versenynaptárból a koronavírus-járvány miatt – közölte a Motorsport.com. A suzukai verseny tavaly is elmaradt.
A Formula–1 menedzsmentje azt közölte az oldalán, hogy dolgoznak az őszi versenynaptáron, a következő hetekben fogják közölni a részleteket. Azt hozzátették, már tavaly és idén is bizonyították, hogy meg tudják oldani az adódó problémákat. Arra külön kitértek, hogy rengeteg ország szeretne F1-es versenyt rendezni.
A Motorsport.com szerint Katar lehet az egyik beugró helyszín, míg egy második versenyt Bahreinben rendezhetnek meg. Ha ezek a helyszínek csatlakoznak a sorozathoz, akkor az utolsó négy futamot a Közel-Keleten rendezik, mivel Szaúd-Arábiában és Abu-Dzabiban is lesz egy-egy futam.
Japánban a koronavírus-járvány ötödik hulláma zajlik, emiatt az olimpia után a paralimpiát is nézők nélkül rendezik meg. Szerdán 19 953 új fertőzéses esetet jelentettek az országban, az elhunytak száma 47-tel emelkedett.
