Az Emilia-Romagna tartományt – és benne az imolai versenypálya környékét – sújtó időjárási vészhelyzetre való tekintettel a hétvégére tervezett Forma–1-es Emilia-Romagna Nagydíj elhalasztását indítványozta Matteo Salvini olasz miniszterelnök-helyettes, infrastruktúra-fejlesztési miniszter.
„Ebben a helyzetben az lenne a helyes, ha minden erőfeszítést a vészhelyzet kezelésére összpontosítanánk” – indokolta a kezdeményezést Salvini, aki a Meloni-kormány infrastruktúra-fejlesztési minisztere is. Salvini úgy fogalmazott: biztos abban, hogy a Forma–1-rajongók megértik és osztják ezt a döntést.
Matteo Salvini miniszterelnök-helyettesként, továbbá az infrastruktúra és a közlekedés fejlesztéséért felelős miniszterként a katasztrófavédelemben érintett intézmények közötti kapcsolattartásért is felel.
Amennyiben megállapodás születik az eredeti tervek szerint péntektől vasárnapig tartandó Emilia-Romagna Nagydíj elhalasztásáról a Salvini vezette minisztérium és a Forma–1-es vb-sorozat vezetői között, úgy a versenyt egy későbbi időpontban – talán a szeptember eleji, Monzában rendezendő Olasz Nagydíjat követő hétvégén – rendezhetik meg Imolában.
