A 26 éves monacói pilótának ez az idei első, pályafutása hatodik futamgyőzelme az F1-ben. Leclerc karrierje során harmadszor indult az első helyről Monacóban, de most először tudott nyerni ott, illetve csaknem két év szünet után diadalmaskodott ismét F1-es versenyen, ugyanis legutóbb ez 2022. július 10-én sikerült neki Ausztriában.
Leclerc mögött Oscar Piastri, a McLaren ausztrál versenyzője ért célba másodikként Monte-Carlóban, míg a harmadik hely a másik Ferrarit vezető spanyol Carlos Sainz Junioré lett. A világbajnoki idény két hét múlva Montrealban, a Kanadai Nagydíjjal folytatódik.

Továbbra is nyitott kérdés, hogy mikor és milyen formában indulhat el az idei Forma-1-es világbajnokság, de természetesen a versenyzőket is foglalkoztatja, hogy milyen helyzettel szembesülnek majd a rendhagyó szezon során. Kevin Magnussen korábban „brutálisnak” nevezte a belengetett, sűrű menetrendet.
A pilóták elsősorban otthoni edzéssel és szimulátorozással próbálják formában tartani magukat, Charles Leclerc elárulta, igyekszik fenntartani azt a készségét is, hogy amikor kell, koncentráltan tudjon foglalkozni a feladatával. A kihagyás ettől függetlenül hosszú, és a monacói pilóta arra számít, hogy ez megkavarhatja a kártyákat.
„Furcsa lesz – idézte a BBC. – Minden pilótának ez az első alkalom, hogy hosszabb ideig nem vezet, aztán rögtön az első, majd a második szabadedzés jön, időmérő és aztán a futam. Nagyon trükkösnek ígérkezik. Talán kissé össze is kavarja majd a dolgokat, mert a versenyzők különböző módokon alkalmazkodnak majd ehhez. Én viszont mindenképpen várom már” – jelentette ki.
Leclerc jól szerepel a nagydíjakat pótló esport-versenyeken, és a hírek szerint a Ferrarinál a koronavírus miatti leállás ellenére találtak plusz lóerőket, Leclerc viszont ettől függetlenül arra számít, hogy a Scuderiának jut majd az üldöző szerepe. „Még mindig azt hiszem, hogy a teszteléseken egy kissé szenvedtünk, úgyhogy fel kell zárkóznunk. Tavaly az év során nagyot léptünk előre, ezt kell folytatnunk, és meggyőződésem, hogy az eredmények is jönnek majd.”
Noha a Mercedesnek is akadtak gondjai a teszteken, a W11-es tempója ismét ígéretesnek tűnt, így a Ferrari számára ismét az lesz a legnagyobb feladat, hogy megállítsák az Ezüstnyilak 2014 óta tartó töretlen sikersorozatát. Ez még nagyobb kihívás lesz, ha tényleg folyamatosan jönnek majd a versenyek, és nem marad annyi idő a háttérben zajló fejlesztésekre.
„Nehéz szezon lesz, mert ha elindul, nem lesznek szünetek. A pályán zajló munka minden korábbinál fontosabbnak ígérkezik. Az is lényeges, hogy már az elejétől összeszedettek legyünk – mondta a kétszeres futamgyőztes. – A Mercedes és Lewis [Hamilton] továbbra is favorit, még akkor is, ha csak nyolcversenyes lesz a szezon. Talán a pályán többet fogunk kockáztatni rizikós stratégiákkal és előzésekkel. Ez talán kifizetődő lesz, talán nem” – vélekedett.
