Az iráni háborúval kapcsolatos biztonsági aggályok miatt áprilisban elmarad a Forma–1 két közel-keleti versenye, a Bahreini Nagydíj és a Szaúd-arábiai Nagydíj – közölte a sorozat vezetése.
A Forma–1 tájékoztatása szerint a térségben kialakult helyzet miatt nem lehet biztonságosan lebonyolítani az eseményeket. A szervezők több alternatívát is megvizsgáltak, de végül úgy döntöttek, hogy a két futamot nem rendezik meg az eredeti időpontban, és egyelőre helyettesítő verseny sem kerül be a naptárba.
A bahreini futamot április 12-én, a szaúdit pedig egy héttel később tartották volna.
Stefano Domenicali, a Forma–1 elnök-vezérigazgatója úgy fogalmazott, hogy bár nehéz döntést hoztak, a jelenlegi közel-keleti helyzetet figyelembe véve ez volt a felelős lépés.
A Nemzetközi Automobil Szövetség (FIA) a bejelentésben nem használta sem a törlés, sem a halasztás kifejezést, ezért elképzelhető, hogy a futamokat később pótolják az eredeti helyszíneken.
A változtatás miatt öt hét szünet lesz a versenynaptárban: a március 29-i Japán Nagydíj után a következő futamra csak május 3-án, a Miami Nagydíjon kerül sor.
