Felszámolja az elmúlt két év futamokat megelőző gesztusát a Forma–1. Elnökük szerint a figyelemfelkeltés után eljött a tettek ideje.
Amikor a világjárvány kitörése után 2020 nyarán újraindult a Forma–1-es bajnokság, a sorozat vezetői meghirdették a „We Race As One” elnevezésű kampányt, mely egyszerre szólított fel a járvány elleni összefogásra, valamint az esélyegyenlőségért való, illetve a rasszizmus elleni küzdelemre. A futamoknak az elmúlt két évben szerves részévé vált, hogy a rajtceremónia előtt minden versenyző összegyűlik, és akár a Lewis Hamilton által kezdeményezett térdeléssel, akár különböző pólókkal hívja fel a figyelmet a fontos ügyekre.
E szervezett kivonulásnak 2022-től vége. Az F1 elnöke, Stefano Domenicali megerősítette, már megszületett a döntés a ceremónia elhagyásáról, így a futamok előtt mostantól nem lesz közös térdelés/kiállás. A kampányuk kisfilmjét ugyanakkor továbbra is be fogják játszani, és szlogenjüket is hirdetni fogják a pályákon. Az olasz emellett hangsúlyozta, ha egy versenyző úgy dönt, hogy meg akar nyilvánulni hasonló témákban, azt megteheti, de máskor, más módokon.
„Nem kell politizálnunk. Úgy vélem, hogy most a gesztusok helyett már eljött a tettek ideje. Most a tettek állnak a fókuszpontban a társadalmunk sokszínűsége szempontjából. És ez az első lépés” – nyilatkozta a brit Sky Sportsnak, amely egyébként nemrég jelentette be, hogy Hamilton alapítványával összefogva külön támogatja a sportág sokszínűbbé válását.
A csatorna információi szerint az F1 a döntés meghozatala előtt Hamiltonnal is egyeztetett, aki támogatja a változtatást. Hasonló váltás egyébként a csapatánál is várható. Az elmúlt két évet rasszizmus elleni küzdelem jegyében fekete festéssel végigversenyző csillagosok idén jó eséllyel visszakanyarodnak a hagyományosabb ezüstös festésükhöz, miközben a hangsúly már náluk is a különböző programokon van.
Az F1 kedden bejelentette, hogy a „We Race As One” kampány keretében folytatja a már eddig is működő programját, és a következő négy évben is támogatni fogja az alulreprezentált csoportok mérnöki képzését. Az alapítványuknak az F1 korábbi elnöke, Chase Carey korábban 1 millió dollárt adományozott, a program iránt most 2025 végéig kötelezte el magát a sorozat. Az általuk támogatott diákok közül már többen megkezdték tanulmányaikat az Egyesült Királyságban és Olaszországban.
