A Szaúd-Arábiában zajló Dakar-ralin hétfői szakaszán Toyotával induló Ginier de Villiers elütött egy motorost, a chilei César Zumaránt. Ráadásul az eset után a dél-afrikai versenyző úgy hajtott tovább, mintha mi sem történt volna, miközben a chilei motoros a földön feküdt, és láthatóan komoly fájdalmakkal küszködött.
A Dakar-ralit 2009-ben megnyerő Ginier de Villiers egy szorosban próbált átkelni, de ott volt előtte a chilei César Zumarán, aki éppen próbálta beindítani a motorját. A dél-afrikai azonban cseppet sem törődött a chilei versenytársával, akit hátulról felöklelt. Az eset után Zumarán kikecmergett a Toyota terepjáró alól, de Villiers úgy hajtott tovább, mintha ez a világ legtermészetesebb dolga lenne, miközben Zumarán láthatóan megsérült az ütközésben.
A gázolás után a sportfelügyelők vizsgálatot indítottak, de végül csak egy 5 perces büntetéssel sújtották a dél-afrikait, miközben sokan azt szerették volna, hogy kizárják a versenyből.
